Scotch whisky by-product could be turned into butanol biofuel if you take it to Scotland where scientists at Edinburgh Napier University’s Biofuel Research Center have learned the trick, says Cnet.com. Thirty percent more energy is received with the waste Butanol than Butanol would vie when made from ethanol, reports an MIT Technology review. This could raise miles per gallon for you. Butanol is better than ethanol in efficiency. There is a 25 percent difference, says Sky News.
Ethanol isn’t really as great as the new whisky biofuel when it comes to limitations
Ethanol must be blended with traditional gasoline (and only in limited amounts), when butanol suffers from no such limitation. This is because butanol is already a key part of gasoline. Technology Review reports that butanol doesn’t absorb water making it great for going through pipelines which is not like ethanol.

Tax credits, favorable tariffs and government subsidies are all accessible to U.S. corn growers. This is because of the Renewable Fuel Standard. According to the Basitiat institute, the ethanol industry already has their say in Congress. Evidently the Fueling Freedom Plan calls for higher ethanol mix caps which will make it all more expensive. Taxpayers are going to end up paying all of this.
Bastiat suggests that it is rather disingenuous for the ethanol lobby to suggest that the government has been holding them back, when so numerous taxpayer dollars are committed to ethanol fuel research already. Ethanol less than 10 percent would make octane better, although whiskey-based butanol is likely to be the best option for fuel efficiency. Butanol research would be preferred by some. Many would rather do that with their tax dollars.
