A bullet flew through Rep. Eric Cantor’s office window

There is a fury that has been left by the vote for health care reform-a fury that has shattered the peace of Rep. Eric Cantor’s district office, among other places on both sides of the political aisle – will not soon subside. According to CNN, Cantor says that right “through a window” a bullet was shot at his office in Richmond, Virginia. Before that took place, he says that he had received many threatening messages, messages which he won’t make public since he fears that doing it publicly might inspire others to commit other violent acts against himself or other republicans.

Democrats are ‘fanning the flames’ of violence maintains Cantor

Cantor suggests that Tim Kaine, DNC chair, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland are doing just that: using those threats made against the pro-health care reform Democrats as a way to strike back. As the Washington politics catchphrase is becoming violence begets violence, Cantor has stated on record “Enough is enough.” People may need cash now, but they don’t have to worry about fringe groups preventing their elected officials from representing them accurately.

Bodyguards for the democrats

What is it that takes them to the tea party mentality and takes them beyond logical discourse and straight off to the expressway of the lunatic fringe? Over 10 democrats have been harassed according to Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the House Majority Leader. They’ve been harassed to a point that they feared for their safety, making it important for them to hire more security staff. Various illiterate threats, broken windows, and a cut gas line at Rep. Tom Perriello’s brother’s home all seem to come down to who desired the health care reform. The pay day loan industry has never faced anything this brutal.

Blood and sweat

Once, Oscar Wilde wrote that “When liberty comes with hands dabbled in blood, it is hard to shake hands with her.” Depending on what side of the fence one resides on health care reform – supporting imperfect change with the possibility of future advances, or fighting to the last breath to stop the supposed socialist agenda – a person might say that bloody liberty isn’t worth it in this case. However, others may gladly shake, then lick the blood clean from their hands, savoring each drop. How do you want your children to turn out as Americans?
